From this ethical situation occurring with Uber many people have many different opinions pertaining with this issue:

  • This document that I just shared down below is by a former employee explaining all about Uber’s ethical issues in a video and what her opinion is on this situation.
  • This is a good example because this individual was actually a worker herself and stated her opinion in depth and explained to the viewers all about the app and what has happened during this transportation service.

Another example:

  • According to the Washington post, “Some riders and drivers have said that the company has been slow to respond to their complaints or hasn’t taken them seriously enough — feeling they’re in a he-said, she-said situation”(Siddiqui, 2019).
  • This example is a huge issue. Uber needs to respond right away, apologize to the people and especially to the victims that it happened too. Uber needs a better way to back themselves up. For an example, having an audio recording or a camera in the vehicle at all times so the whole ride is on video tape to protect themselves.

The last example:

This image is very intriguing. This graph is all about who the passenger wants to pick them up from their destination. From this chart, a lot of women want other women to pick them up rather than men. A woman could have bad intentions just like men. Women drivers could be not as safe either. To be honest for me, I do not go into an Uber alone to avoid situations like this to occur. For me, it doesn’t matter if there male or female picking me up if I am with a group of people, because I feel more safe rather than being by myself.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with your response. I am always with my friends or a group of people also when going into an Uber. I think that Uber does need to start responding a lot quicker to complaints because they will start to lose their customers to Lyft or Taxis. I think that putting a camera in the vehicle would be a great idea. It would make me feel a lot safer on my ride.

    1. Thanks Madison. I agree with you as well that Uber needs to respond to these issues a lot sooner especially because they could lose riders to other competitors like Lyft and Taxi. I would feel safer if there is a camera in the vehicle at all times just to protect both parties at all costs.

  2. The video included in your blog post gives good insight into what it is really like to work with Uber. The idea of ensuring every riders safety, and not just some, should be focused on more. While currently Uber has more male drivers than female, this is expected to balance out during the coming years. The lack of response from the company about complaints completely blows my mind. As the services industry continues to grow, the consumer has put more focus on the customer service rather than just the product alone. Not responding to complaints or taking them seriously will prove to be a big issue for the company customer service reputation. I think this blog post touches on all points that are necessary to understanding the ethical situation even further.

    1. I also thought that the video gave great detail on how it is to work for Uber and hear about someone’s actual experience overall. I agree with you on this. Uber defiantly should be commenting back to the people because it is hurting their reputation as a whole. This is obviously causing a huge dilemma on the company not really taking these situations very seriously as they should because obviously from the evidence stated above their is a re-occurrence and that is huge red flags.

  3. The video and the graphs were really helpful Its very strange that uber doesn’t have a driver gender preference, Also its simply shocking that uber doesn’t hire people who do have some form of police / investigative background for the investigation unit . People often aren’t willing to report crimes but as you said telling someone with no knowledge will make it a he said she said situation because the evidence wont always be obvious.

    1. Thank you Adrian. It is very shocking that Uber does hire people if they do have a criminal background, that is just red flags right from the start. I absolutely hate he said she said situations because we don’t know 100% who is actually telling the truth which makes it difficult and uncomfortable in these situations.

  4. I had never considered what it was like being a female Uber passenger. I can more then understand apprehension getting into strangers cars. Being as thats probably half the market for Uber, they need to address these issues.

    1. I totally agree with you James. Uber needs to address these issues and it can be very scary for women passengers which is not acceptable, everyone should feel safe especially in this well known service, so Uber needs to do something about these ethical issues ASAP.

  5. I have had Uber drivers sexually harass me and smoke weed in the car while driving, and this has happened when I’ve been in the car by myself, but also when I’ve been with a group. Any time I’ve reported a situation to Uber they have always been quick to respond and refund my ride. I think adding a camera is a great solution for both driver and passengers. I do have to say though, I still feel more comfortable driving in an Uber than a Taxi. With Uber I can see the route the driver is given on my phone and if the driver is following that route, while with a Taxi I cannot.

    1. Wow Sidney, I am so sorry that this has happened to you. This is a huge ethical dilemma that needs to change ASAP. That is not okay that they were smoking in the car with you as well. That is really good that Uber quickly responded back to you and gave your money back which helps the situation a little bit. That was a good reason why you would choose an Uber over a taxi, because I like to see how far away I am from my destination and making sure he is going the correct way.
