The Background Information on Uber:

Uber is a well known service that is useful to anyone. Their demographic is any age who needs a ride to point A to point B. Uber is very convenient and useful especially when an individual has been drinking or if someone doesn’t own a car. From this being invented less people are drinking and driving and it is easier to have an uber driver come pick individuals up using the app. This app shows where the customers destination is, who the Uber driver is, what kind of vehicle they will be driving and how far away they are from your destination.

Uber’s company website:

Mainly this website entails:

  • Explaining how the process and app works
  • Showing customers that safety comes first
    • “We recognize that every time you open your Uber app, you’re putting your trust in our technology—to not only connect you with a driver, but to also give you resources in case of emergency. That trust is what drives us to continuously raise the bar, building new safety features, setting guidelines for respectful and positive experiences, and more”.

Uber’s History:

To start off, Uber was founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick under the name UberCab. The reason why this was invented is because Camp recently spent $800.00 on hiring a private car to take him back to his destination on the night of New Years Eve and thought it was crazy how much he spent. He was trying to figure out another way he could make the service more affordable. Camp realized having multiple people in an individual’s party can bring down the cost as a whole. The amount of success Uber has been able to achieve in their short history is remarkable.

In 2010, Ryan Graves ended up becoming the Company’s CEO. The name was Ubercab and then eventually got shortened to Uber in 2011. Uber Cabs logo from the start was UC but then they thought about making it just Uber and not having a dark scheme. They thought about making it more modern and luxurious over all. Another year passed which made it 2012 and added UberX. UberX is a service that individuals were allowed to use their own cars to transport individuals. Uber has become well known and popular over the years. This transportation service is operated in three hundred cities across six continents.

  1. I really enjoy reading your posts because they are easy to follow and well thought out. I like reading new information on a company that I use quite often. I did some more research on Uber because why not? Uber has a very low women worker rate. There are only 14% who work for Uber. However, Uber is planning to add at least one million female drivers this year.

    1. Thanks Madison. I give you props for looking up more research on this, and the statistics that you found are very intriguing dealing with the rate of women workers. That is good to know that Uber is going to add one million female drivers this year as well.

  2. I like how Karly incorporated the history of the logo in her blog. The logo is something that is often overlooked but in the case of Uber, it plays a large role in the rise of the company. The history of the company is very interesting to think about as we know Uber as the large company it is today, but I did not know that it started off as UberCab.

    1. Thanks Tyler. I thought it was a good idea to give visuals of the logos so everyone can see how much Uber’s logo has changed over the years. I thought it was so interesting to learn more about the history of Uber. I also, did not know that Uber started as UberCab from the beginning either.

  3. I like your focus on the logo of uber and the importance the company is placing on it , also the mention of UberX. Did you know that there was mention of uber denying riders if they were drunk. Alot of people made memes about how this defeated the purpose of the app

    1. Thank you Adrian. I did not know that Uber was denying riders if they are drunk. That is very intriguing to me because that is what Uber is for as well for individuals to not drink and drive. But I also, understand it on Uber’s viewpoint because when people are drunk some people can be rude or do harmful things so I totally understand why they are denying riders.

  4. I think its funny that one of Ubers Values is to “Make Big Bold Bets”, because the whole company is a big bold bet. They’ve expanded everywhere and they still aren’t making a profit. As for the history, its a kinda neat story.

    1. I personally think Uber is making a lot of money over the world because it is such a unique and convenient service over all. Maybe from these ethical situations that occurred they will lose profit from people who are scared to ride in them because of what happened during this transportation service.

  5. Karly your post is well organized and easy to understand. I find it interesting that Uber’s logo changed so drastically in such a short period of time. I think their value “build globally, live locally” is very fitting since Uber has drivers all over the world, yet the drivers are supporting their communities and working in their towns.

    1. Thank you Sidney! Yes I thought that the logo changing over the years was very interesting as well. It is very good that drivers are supporting their communities and working in their towns. “Build globally, live locally” is a great quote to stand by it and Uber does it very well.
