#3) What is the company saying about the ethical situation? How are they explaining their actions, their lack of action, or their reaction? What do you think about their approach to the issue or problem?
Unfortunately, they are not saying much or even admitting to these ethical situations. Many situations on the safety of the passengers, security of drivers and the privacy issues are just sidestepping the situation as a whole. The reason I personally think they do not say much is because it will cause a lawsuit if they do. But also, it is not okay to slide these situations under the rug because they are affecting lives and something needs to be done as soon as possible.
They aren’t saying much on the current situations that are occurring but they’ve had on their Uber app if you are unsafe or feeling uncomfortable you can call 911 on the Uber app or even share your location to your family and friends. So yes they aren’t really saying much on these ethical issues but they could go back themselves up by saying if the passengers or even the driver were unsafe in this transportation service they could have used this app to avoid these ethical dilemmas.

I agree with what you are saying about why they have been keeping quiet, but if you put yourself in the CEO’s shoes, would you be wanting the world to hear about kids being kidnapped, or sexually harassed, etc.? I think in this situation I don’t know what I would do. If I was the owner of Uber, if I was keeping quiet about everything, I would go to extreme measures to make sure that none of that happens again. I would work internally instead of telling customers.

I totally get what you are saying. This situation is overall uncomfortable for both parties, Uber and the individuals that were hurt too. I would defiantly go to extreme measures to make sure this will not occur again if I was management as well.

I find it extremely interesting that Uber has not said much of anything regarding the ethical situation they are faced with. Being such a large company that is used by millions nationwide, the safety of their passengers should not be overlooked whatsoever. While Uber itself has done little to recognize the issues that are arising with their company, many other apps have surfaced that allow the rider to enhance their safety while riding in an Uber. I personally think that the lack of media being released by Uber about the situation shows a lack of moral and ethical integrity within the company. Will the company continue to hide these issues? Does this affect the amount of people that choose to use their services? We shall find out.

I totally agree with you Tyler on this. From this company being so successful and used by millions nationwide, the safety of their passengers and even drivers should NOT be overlooked whatsoever. The app is a good idea to have just in case the passengers or even drivers need to call 911 for assistance. The questions that you are asking at the end of your comment are very intriguing and I can’t even answer them because like you said we will find out in the future.

Personally I’m not very surprised that uber isn’t addressing the matter directly, The best method for companies to upkeep stock price would be to put the information in the fine print and then work on the issues in the background. This is very common things for big companies to do unless the public has a big outcry . They will only put the spotlight on on what the public does

A lot of companies do put it in fine print and try to fix the issues in the background and that is what I think Uber is doing. I am surprised Uber is not addressing it because not addressing it, is hurting their reputation even more.

It is kind of the same with all these companies, they all just deflect. If they don’t mention the problem publicly then they don’t have to acknowledge the problem. They are less likely to be questioned by the media or customers.

Yes that is very true, they try to avoid it to not cause more conflict but it also isn’t helping their reputation overall doing this as well.

I think it is very understandable that Uber is not publicly sharing these issues. People don’t want a company to tell them about problems that will make them feel unsafe, they want solutions. I think the way Uber handles these problems by staying quiet, brainstorming solutions, and then implementing the solution into the app. For example, I never knew that Uber was having the issue of people getting into the wrong car. I only found out about this problem when they already implemented the solution of messaging one the license plate of his or her Uber right after the order and right before the arrival of the Uber. Now I always make sure to check before I get in a car.

Yes ever since that incident happened with an individual being taken, every time I get into an Uber I always take a picture of their license plate. I understand what you are saying that the public does not like to see a company dwell on their issues but not even owing up or even apologizing to the public on what happened does not help their reputation at all.
